For the last couple years, I’ve found *tremendous* joy through making some holiday-themed design/training resources for LXDs, teachers, and instructional designers. βοΈ
I’ve always gifted these out because I firmly believe learning should be accessible and fun… and honestly, it’s a gift for me, too! π
Dreaming up new ways of presenting information and teaching others new skills pushes me to be a better designer; a more creative thinker; a more well-rounded artist. It’s a treat for my soul, truly. π
I’ve loved the collaborative opportunities I’ve had to do this, especially with the Kaborzi crew. β¨
Our December Creative Challenge last year was one for the books!! I’m still so impressed by everyone’s execution on their final projects. π€©
I didn’t have the time or energy to conjure up something new for ’22, but I’ve repackaged the goodies from last year’s Creative Challenge into a self-paced prompt for others to enjoy, too.π¨
Details of the Prompt

What to expect:
- Get experience using a real brand book for a fake (but festive) company: Claus Inc.!
- Use well-known source material to find inspo for your project (hint: you may be humming it already! π΅βοΈ)
- Access many valuable tools and resources to build up your bookmarks bar (stock music, graphics, and more)
- Use graphic resources provided to create a wow-worthy, whimsical winter project
This is FUN. And, it’s free. (Not gimmicky free; just free-free.)
You’ll just need a copy of PowerPoint and a favorite holiday song to get started! π΅βοΈ
More About the Brand Book
Working with brand books is a huge part of our work, but it’s often overlooked as something to learn. That’s because it’s not always so easy to get our hands on a brand book to practice with.
And as a result, a lot of LXDs don’t have the *best* branding eye. (Sorry, but it’s true!)
To help you brush up on your branding knowledge, I made a fake brand book for ya to practice with. It’s called a Brand at Glance and provides some key guidance you’re likely to encounter in your own work, like:
- Typography
- Colors
- Graphic direction
- And more!
Here’s a look inside of the book:
This project asks you to refer to this brand book and leverage this guidance as you’re creating your work.
Looking for inspo?
Watch a Mariah Carey-inspired Storyline project come to life using this prompt in this YouTube video! This features some Kaborzi LXDs collaborating on the work together.
Please enjoy and share with anyone you think could use a little creative direction (and/or distraction!) to produce a fun project this season! π€
Plan to play along?
If you choose to partake, I’d love to see what you make in the comments. π Just drop a Google Drive link, a Storyline link, a YouTube Link… whatever!
I’m wishing everyone all the best this holiday season and sending y’all good vibes for a happy, healthy, and soul-nourishing 2023! π
